THE CITY2SURF 2014 CHANNEL 7 NEWS
‘Running for Daniel’
I’ve created this page because I want to make a difference. I’m inspired by the work that Cure Brain Cancer Foundation do, so I wanted to raise money for them as part of my participation in The 2014 Sun-Herald City2Surf presented by Westpac. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the ‘Donate Now’ button. The more people that know about Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
I want to run the City2Surf in honour of my brother, Daniel Berry, who passed away on 8th July, 2013 from a brain tumour. He had a Grade IV Multiforme Glioblastoma. We are grateful to Dr Charlie Teo for giving us an extra 6 months with him, and so I want to raise money to go towards brain cancer research. Daniel was a Paralympic athlete who inspired many people with his determination to overcome challenges and to embrace every opportunity he was given. He was a fighter and a true champion who never complained. He ran in the City2Surf in 2012 which was the last race he ran in before his final deterioration and so I want to run in this year’s City2Surf in memory of his last race.
Daniel’s time in the 2012 City2Surf was 67 minutes. My aim is to try and get close to this time. Daniel deteriorated so quickly after this that he was in a wheelchair 3 months later but still managed to complete the “Walk for Brain Cancer” in Manly towards the end of November. He ended up in hospital the following week and Dr Teo operated on him on Christmas Eve. Due to complications he remained in hospital for another 6 months but was able to come home to spend his final 2 weeks with us.
I am calling on friends, family and businesses to sponsor me in my “Running for Daniel” quest.
‘Running For Daniel’
I’ve decided to get on board with Cure Brain Cancer & run this years 2014 Sun-Herald City 2 Surf presented by Westpac in memory of a very dear friend of mine who passed away in July 2013 last year from brain cancer. Cure Brain Cancer is an organisation that was very close to Daniel’s heart & I want to support them for all the help & assistance they offered Daniel during his battle. I would really appreciate your support to help me say thank you. Supporting this cause & spreading this page around the community I hope will create an impact for the cure of brain cancer. The more people that support this cause, equals more lives being saved from such a fast killing cancer.
I’m teaming up with a close friend of mine, Thomas Berry, who happens to be Daniel’s brother, to run this year’s City2Surf & we are running in memory of Daniel Berry. Daniel fought his battle with courage & strength, & was an incredible example to many in his acceptance, diagnosis, many operations & treatment. He was someone who never once complained, but instead thanked God & was so grateful for every opportunity he had been given & showed many that you can always achieve something if you put your mind to it.
The last race Daniel ran was the 2012 City2Surf which was just before his health began to decline. I, along with his brother Thomas, are running this years City2Surf in memory of his last race. His time in the 2012 City2Surf was 67 minutes, and this is what Thomas & I are striving towards. It will be far from easy, as I am no runner, but our aim is to get as close to this time as possible, or if not, meet it. To give you an example of the extraordinary man that he was, just 3 months after his City2Surf race, he was determined enough to complete a “Walk for Brain Cancer” in Manly with his family, myself & close friends. He was confined to a wheelchair yet this didn’t stop him from walking along the beach with support.
Daniel was like a close brother to me & I want to do everything I can to give back to Cure Brain Cancer & to show the community just how special this man was.
I am asking on all friends, family & communities to support & sponsor me in “Running for Daniel” in the 2014 City2Surf under the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. Growing up & doing life with Daniel was such a privilege & it would be a huge honour to make a difference in remembering the life of Daniel & contributing to his ongoing legacy.
Many thanks, your support is appreciated.

‘Running For Daniel’
I’ve decided to join my brother, Thomas Berry, along with our close family friend, Shelley Cattell, to run in this year’s City2Surf in memory of my eldest brother, Daniel Berry, who passed away on 8th July last year from a brain tumour.
He had a Grade IV Multiforme Glioblastoma. Dr Charlie Teo operated on him on Christmas Eve of 2012 and gave us an extra 6 months with him. We were very grateful for this but I want to raise money to go towards brain cancer research so that other families don’t have to go through what we did. Daniel was a Paralympic athlete who inspired many people with his determination to overcome challenges and to embrace every opportunity that he was given. He was a fighter and a true champion who never complained. He ran in the City2Surf in 2012 which was the last race he ran in before his final deterioration and so I want to run in this year’s City2Surf in memory of this.
Daniel deteriorated so quickly after the City2Surf that he was in a wheelchair 3 months later but still managed to complete the “Walk for Brain Cancer” in Manly towards the end of November. He ended up in hospital the following week which is when Dr Teo operated on him. Due to complications he remained in hospital for another 6 months but was able to come home to spend his final 2 weeks with us.
I am calling on all my family, friends and businesses to sponsor me in my ‘Running for Daniel’ quest. Please help me help ‘Cure Brain Cancer’, by donating money. Any amount will be appreciated. Help us to raise money to find a cure.
